A crypto quote stream for a fintech platform
A reference scenario for a fintech application consuming continuous digital-asset quotes while retaining the venue, product and timestamp information needed to interpret them.
Illustrative implementation scenario. This is a reference architecture, not a completed customer case study. No customer identity, deployment outcome or performance improvement is claimed.

Discuss a similar deployment ↗The requirement
A short symbol such as BTCUSD can hide materially different markets. A client can also reconnect with an old local value and mistakenly display it as current. The application needs an explicit instrument model and recovery contract before it can use a continuous stream responsibly.
A source-to-consumer design
- Approved venue inputs
Keep venue identifiers, market type, quote currency and licensed consumer scope.
- Instrument normalization
Separate spot, perpetual and other derivative definitions; retain source provenance.
- Quote-quality layer
Apply agreed checks for stale, incomplete or crossed observations.
- WebSocket delivery
Define subscriptions, initial state, updates, heartbeats and reconnect behaviour.
- REST and application state
Use an agreed snapshot workflow where needed and expose stale or disconnected status in the client.
What belongs in the technical scope
| Area | What to agree |
|---|---|
| Instrument identity | Treat BTC/USD and BTC/USDT as separate inputs unless a documented conversion model has been approved. |
| Source timestamps | Preserve source event time and receive time. Record missing timestamps instead of inventing source precision. |
| Composite policy | If several venues are combined, define eligible inputs, exclusion rules and provenance for the resulting observation. |
| Stream contract | Agree update semantics, initial snapshot behaviour, ordering or sequence fields if supported, and resubscription ownership. |
| Application limits | Define subscriptions, connection limits, permitted consumers, history scope and deployment-specific support arrangements. |
Implementation and review
Consumer brief
Identify the screens and processes that consume quotes. Separate display, analytics and any order-related requirements.
Protocol specification
Write a field-level contract and distinguish a full quote from an incremental update. Decide how clients know a quote is usable.
Recovery rehearsal
Interrupt the network, reconnect, resubscribe and rebuild current state. Test the application with a disconnected or stale source.
Acceptance evidence
Capture representative observations and state transitions using the approved test environment. Review data rights and operational ownership before production.
Proposed acceptance checks
Use these as a starting checklist. Agree numerical thresholds, test duration, source data rights and expected consumer behaviour for the actual environment before acceptance.
| Check | Evidence to capture |
|---|---|
| Quote currency | A BTC/USDT input does not become BTC/USD merely through symbol renaming. |
| Initial state | A new or recovered subscription reaches a complete current state before the application labels it live. |
| Connection loss | The application exposes an explicit degraded state and follows the agreed reconnect and resubscription policy. |
| Ordering | Where sequence identifiers exist, the consumer detects a gap and uses the specified recovery procedure. |
| Venue degradation | An excluded or stale input is handled according to the composite policy, with source identity retained for review. |
Scope and limitations
The page is not a published API contract, a venue partnership statement or evidence of a completed client deployment. Real endpoints, credentials, rate limits, permitted uses and service targets are confirmed during integration.
